Chukwueze’s substitution cost us- AC Milan coach Paulo Fonseca

Embattled AC Milan coach Paulo Fonseca believes that Samuel Chukwueze’s forced exit was part of the reason they failed to defeat Roma on Sunday, Soccernet.ng reports.

Chukwueze started for AC Milan when they welcomed Roma to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza for their Serie A fixture.

The game burst into life from the blast of whistle, with chances falling to both sides early. The Rossoneri broke the deadlock in the 16th minute, courtesy of Tijjani Reijnders.

However, their lead did not last long, as Paulo Dybala equalized for Roma just seven minutes later. It was quite an open game, as both teams had chances to add more to the scoreline before the break. However, the first half ended goalless.

Super Eagles star Chukwueze was impressive, as he was a livewire on the right wing. He had 38 touches, three key passes, four goal attempts, and one successful dribble.

Unfortunately for him, he was forced off in the 62nd minute as he could no continue due to an injury.

The game eventually ended 1-1 after 90 minutes. And after the game, Milan coach Fonseca stated that Chukwueze’s forced exit was part of the reason they failed to win.

“In the first half, we created several chances to score. Very fair attitude from the players. But with Chukwueze’s exit, we lost a lot and took a lot of risks. We deserved to win, but we missed many chances,” Fonseca said, per Nicolo Schira.

The draw against Roma has put Fonseca in a bad position, as there are strong reports that he will soon be sacked. For Chukwueze, there are fears that he might have suffered a hamstring injury, and that could put paid to his reported transfer to Arsenal.
