Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho has issued a passionate rallying cry as Nigeria prepares for the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Super Eagles’ next international fixture is slated to hold against Rwanda who they lost 2-1 to in the final AFCON qualifier, despite sealing their 2025 AFCON ticket.
Although, they seem to have a bigger fish to fry as they are yet to defeat the Amavubi this far with a draw in Kigali and a loss to them at the Godswill Akapbio Stadium.
Reflecting on the team’s recent setback, Iheanacho points out the importance of approaching the World Cup qualifiers with urgency.
“We must go with red eyes and win all these games. This is World Cup qualifiers and we know how big it is. And now we have how many draws? They are the ones ahead in the World Cup qualifiers and they are down here.” he told Victor Modo.
Nigeria currently trails in their qualifying group as the second-bottom with three points, with a series of draws placing them in a challenging position. However, the Super Eagles star is confident that the team can turn their fortunes around.
“I can’t wait for it to start so that we just go there and do this thing so everyone will rest and not shake that we won’t go to the World Cup.” the former Leicester city forward added.
The Super Eagles’ first World Cup qualifier is scheduled against Rwanda next year, and the team is keen to begin the campaign on a winning note.
