Victor Osimhen struck twice in a thrilling seven-minute burst to propel Galatasaray to a 3-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in their UEFA Europa League clash on Thursday, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Nigerian forward had a goal disallowed for offside in the 31st minute, but swiftly responded just a minute later, toe-poking a brilliant finish to put Galatasaray ahead 2-1.
Moments after his first goal, Osimhen added a second, meeting Dries Mertens’ pinpoint cross with a delicate left-footed strike to seal his brace.
These two goals against Tottenham make them Osimhen’s joint-favourite Premier League opposition.
Leicester City were the first English team to concede twice to the Super Eagles striker, as he netted both of Napoli’s goals in a 2-2 draw back in September 2021.
Osimhen has also faced two other Premier League clubs: he scored once against Chelsea in the Champions League but went goalless in two matches against Liverpool, both played during his spell at Napoli.
With his latest exploits, Osimhen now has six career goals in the Europa League, tying him as the seventh-most prolific Nigerian in the competition’s history.
Only Obafemi Martins (13 goals), Victor Boniface (11), Victor Ikpeba (8), and Shola Ameobi, Ademola Lookman, and Benedict Akwuegbu (each with 7 goals) have scored more.
Currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, Osimhen has been in superb form, tallying six goals and four assists in just eight games for the reigning Turkish champions, making a stellar 10-goal contribution this season.
