Super Eagles striker Sadiq Umar is expected to be out of action for a few weeks after sustaining a hamstring injury during a training session at the club on Wednesday, Soccernet.ng reports.
Umar has been struggling at Real Sociedad since his transfer two years ago. The Nigerian striker moved to the club from Almeria for a record €20 million.
Unfortunately for him, he sustained a nasty anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in just his third game for Real Sociedad. Since then, he has not remained the same.
The 27-year-old striker returned to action last season, but he failed to reach his quality. Due to his struggles, his game time was reduced drastically, as he started most of his games from the bench.
This season, things have not changed a lot, as he has only managed one assist in eight games. It was even a surprise that coach Augustine Eguavoen invited him for the last international break.
Umar had just a few minutes of action for Nigeria, but he failed to make any meaningful impact.
The 27-year-old striker returned to his club earlier in the week to prepare for their Copa Del Rey game against lower division side Jove Espanol.
Unfortunately for him, he sustained a hamstring injury during a training session on Wednesday. And that effectively ruled him out of action.
As it stands, Real Sociedad are yet to reveal how long Umar will spend on the sidelines. But as with most hamstring injuries, he could be sidelined for four-six weeks.
