Nigeria’s Super Eagles caretaker coach, Augustine Eguavoen, is gearing up to announce his final 25-man squad for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier against arch-rivals Ghana, Soccernet.ng reports.
This selection follows two phases of intensive training camps held in Abuja, where Eguavoen and his team evaluated 70 players from Nigeria’s domestic league.
According to SCORENigeria, the chosen squad will undergo a final round of close training in Abuja after the Super Eagles complete their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda.
The first leg of the CHAN qualifier against Ghana will see Nigeria’s home-based Eagles travel to face the Black Stars between December 20 and 22.
A week later, the reverse fixture will take place in Abuja. In the last edition of the CHAN qualifying cycle, Ghana prevented Nigeria from making it to the tournament, adding extra intensity to this year’s matchup.
Meanwhile, Nasarawa United coach Kabiru Dogo has voiced his confidence in Victor Collins, believing the centre-back has the qualities to make an impact at the international level.
Collins impressed Eguavoen during the first CHAN training sessions and thereafter secured his first invitation to the Super Eagles’ senior squad for the upcoming AFCON qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda.
The young defender is the only home-based player included by Eguavoen for Nigeria’s November fixtures.
“Collins is a top-quality defender,” Dogo remarked.
“I joined the team just four days before the season began, and he has made a significant impression since. I believe he’s a player who can become a regular in the Super Eagles. He has all the qualities to achieve this.”
Collins will be eager to make his international debut in Nigeria’s upcoming matches against Benin and Rwanda.
