Nigeria’s Super Eagles B will clash with their West African rivals, Ghana, in the second round of the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 qualifiers this December, Soccernet.ng reports.
The two nations were paired together during the draw held at CAF Headquarters in Cairo, Egypt, on Wednesday, October 9, 2024.
This sets the stage for a heated two-legged encounter as both teams aim for a spot in next year’s tournament.
The first leg will be held in Ghana between December 20 and 22, with the return leg scheduled in Nigeria from December 27 to 29, 2024.
Nigeria’s CHAN Eagles will be managed by a coaching team consisting of Rangers’ Fidelis Ilechukwu and Remo Stars’ Daniel Ogunmodede, overseen by Augustine Eguavoen.
Ghana’s Black Galaxies eliminated Nigeria from the previous CHAN qualifiers, edging past the Super Eagles B in a penalty shootout after the two-legged tie ended 2-2 on aggregate.
This upcoming encounter presents Nigeria with a chance for revenge as they aim to secure their place in CHAN 2024, to be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
Nigeria last reached the CHAN final in 2018, finishing as runners-up to Morocco. They also secured third place in the 2014 edition.
Despite these accomplishments, the Super Eagles B have never lifted the CHAN trophy.
Their rivals, Ghana, will be hoping to build on their previous success, having qualified for the last edition in Algeria.
The winner of this tie will progress to the CHAN 2024 finals, adding another chapter to the historic Nigeria-Ghana football rivalry.
