Former CSKA Moscow star Ahmed Musa scored a brace for Kano Pillars on his NFPL return to help them defeat Sunshine Stars 2-0 at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Sunday, Soccernet.ng reports.
Musa was without a club since his contract at Sivasspor was terminated in February this year. However, he signed for former Nigeria Premier Football League champions Kano Pillars at the start of the month.
It was not a strange decision, as the 31-year-old forward grew up in Kano and started his career at Kano Pillars before moving to Europe in 2010. Musa also had a short stint with the club in 2021 after his contract at Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr was terminated.
The Super Eagles got into the thick of the action quite early as he was named in Kano Pillars’ starting eleven for their clash at home to Sunshine Stars.
It took Musa just four minutes to score the opener, as he latched on to a loose ball inside the box and struck a powerful shot that rattled the net.

Pillars dominated the fixture, but they had to wait until the second half before they got their second. And it was Musa again, as he placed a precise finish past Emmanuel Ofori in Sunshine Stars’ goal.
The former CSKA Moscow star could have grabbed his second of the game in the 70th minute, but his penalty only hit the woodwork.

Nevertheless, his brace was just enough to see Kano Pillars through, as it ended 2-0 after 90 minutes.
