“Done quite well” – Former Flying Eagles coach lavishes praise on Eguavoen for job well done

“Done quite well” – Former Flying Eagles coach lavishes praise on Eguavoen for job well done

Former Flying Eagles coach, Fatai Amoo, has praised Nigeria's interim manager, Augustine Eguavoen, for a job well done since he took over in September, Soccernet.ng reports.

Eguavoen, in his fourth spell in charge of the three-time AFCON winners, is yet to lose a game from three attempts, winning two and playing one draw. Away from the results, the team has also improved significantly on the pitch, playing more offensively away from Peseiro's hoop and hope attempt.

Nigeria secured three points against Libya yesterday evening, but had to toil until the 87th minute before the breakthrough came through Fisayo Ayodele-Bashiru.

Amoo, reacting to Nigeria's win against the Mediterranean knights at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, credited Eguavoen for the team's positive developments in the last few weeks.

“So far, they have done quite well. in terms of the result we might say it didn’t meet public expectation, but we played well overall. Their defence prevented us from get many scoring opportunities; the Center forwards didn’t get much on the chances, but our wingers tried.

Moses Simon, Ademola Lookman and even Samuel Chukwueze all did well. Perhaps we could have given Chidera Ejuke minutes too, he’s a good dribbler and that can help creatively in a game of that nature.

Honestly, the coaches did well with the substitutions in terms of creating chances. We only just need to reshuffle the team. Our expectations are high because of past records, but if we bring in Pep Guardiola today, do you think he would be able to use some of the players that we have? Let’s be honest with ourselves,” the former Shooting stars coach told Brila.

Nigeria continue their quest for a place in the AFCON 2025 tournament on Tuesday, as they take on Libya at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Benghazi.
