Galatasaray coach Orkan Buruk has praised Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen for his overall contributions despite his inability to score in his first three games at the club, Soccernet.ng reports.
Osimhen joined Galatasaray in the summer after he failed to get a transfer to a big club. The 25-year-old arrived at the club with a lot of fanfare after his exploits at Napoli. And it was clear that he was going to be the first-choice striker at the club.
Since joining Galatasaray, Osimhen has started all three of the games he was available for, and he has been impressive, registering four assists so far.
Nonetheless, he has failed to find the net, which is the primary task of any typical number 9. Still, it hasn’t been for lack of trying. In his three games for Galatasaray, Osimhen has taken 18 shots, but none has found the net.
Nonetheless, Galatasaray boss Buruk has backed Osimhen, praising him for his selflessness and overall contributions to the team.
“Victor Osimhen’s game is very important. Not everything is about scoring goals. You score goals but you lose the game,” Buruk said, per PlaySpor.
“When he sees the net, he passes the ball to the closest player. If he focused only on scoring goals, it could be different. He fights a lot during the game. He suits us very well as a player and a person. It is very valuable to have him with us.”
Galatasaray’s next game is against Kasimpasa, and he will likely lead the line again. The Lions are massive favourites to win the game, and Osimhen will hope that he can break his scoreless streak.
