Rwanda captain Djihad Bizimana has issued a strong rallying cry ahead of their crucial AFCON 2025 qualifier against Nigeria, Soccernet.ng reports.
Bizimana, who plays as a defensive midfielder for Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih in the Ukrainian Premier League, has promised that the Amavubi will give their absolute best to secure a historic victory on Tuesday.
The Wasps will host three-time African champions Nigeria at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali, as both sides seek to build on their group-stage campaigns.
Bizimana, 27, has emphasised the team’s determination to shoot down the Super Eagles, insisting that the day can only end in a positive result for the Wasps.
“We are going to give 150%. It would be difficult for us if we do less than that,” Bizimana stated as per the New Times.
The midfielder also called on the home fans to turn out in full force, adding,
“We know that we are going to play against a tough team, but all I am asking Rwandans is to come and support us. They won’t go back home disappointed.”
Nigeria head into the match as slight favourites, having thrashed Benin 3-0 in their opening qualifier on Saturday.
Goals from Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman and Napoli star Victor Osimhen powered the Super Eagles to an emphatic win.
The Nigerian duo are expected to pose a significant threat to Frank Spittler’s Rwandan side, who earned a 1-1 draw against Libya in their opening fixture.
Despite the odds, Rwanda will be hoping to secure their first-ever win over Nigeria. In five previous encounters, the Super Eagles have won twice, with the other three matches ending in draws.
