Nigeria could finally lose Samuel Omorodion as the 20-year-old is billed to be called up to the Spanish senior team for the next international break, Soccernet.ng reports.
Samu Omorodion has been in fine form since his switch to former Portuguese champions Porto in the summer. The former Atletico initially looked set for Chelsea, but the deal broke down in the final stages.
Nonetheless, the Porto deal has paid off for Omorodion as he has scored four goals in his first four games. His brilliant performances has put him contention for a place in Luis de la Fuente’s squad for the upcoming international break.
Born and raised in Spain, Omorodion has risen through the Spanish youth teams and even featured in the 2024 Olympics. However, there have been talks about the possibility of him switching to Nigeria as he has Nigerian parents. But those talks have not materialized.
In fact, the possibility of Omorodion switching to Nigeria could be finally put to rest soon. According to Football Espania, the 20-year-old will be called up for Spain’s UEFA Nations League games against Denmark and Serbia.
If Omorodion plays any of those games, he will never be able to switch to Nigeria according to FIFA’s rules. With his talent, the 20-year-old could go on to become an integral performer for Spain in the coming years.
