Former English Premier League champions Chelsea have been scouting Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface in recent weeks, Soccernet.ng reports.
Boniface joined Bayer Leverkusen last season following an impressive campaign at Belgian Jupiler Pro League club Royale Union SG. And since his move, the Super Eagles star has taken to Bayer Leverkusen like fish to water.
Last season, the 23-year-old striker registered 21 goals and ten assists in 39 appearances, helping Bayer Leverkusen to the Bundesliga title and the German Cup.
Boniface has continued with his impressive form this season, nicking four goals and one assist in six games. Following his impressive displays, there were talks that Boniface could leave Bayer Leverkusen during the summer transfer window. However, nothing concrete emerged from those talks.
Now, in a recent development, per Transfer News Live, Chelsea have sent scouts to Bayer Leverkusen to watch Boniface. This indicates that the club is interested in signing the Super Eagles striker.
Over the past two years, Chelsea have adopted a policy for signing young players with potential across the world, and Boniface fits the description.
The Nigerian striker is currently valued at €40 million, according to Transfermarkt. But that could change if he has a great campaign. Leverkusen would also be a tough customer as Boniface still has four years left on his deal.
