Super Eagles and Bayer 04 Leverkusen striker, Victor Okoh Boniface, has revealed unbothered about having a home-based coach in charge of the Super Eagles, Soccernet.ng reports.
Boniface made his Nigerian debut under Jose Peseiro, and has since then, featured under Finidi George. Should he play for Nigeria in their upcoming AFCON 2025 qualifiers, he would do so under another home-based coach in Augustine Eguavoen.
Despite the AFCON 2013 victory Nigeria had under the Late Stephen Keshi, several football fans in the country do not believe a home-based coach should be in charge of such a talented team as they trust a foreign eye would harness the goods of the team.
Boniface, however, maintained he doesn't buy that line of thought regarding the criticism of coaches, be it local or not.
“The truth is even if we bring Guardiola, Nigerians will still have something to say, but I'm a type of person that doesn't care about what people think, because we're they're not here with the team. Our job is to give it all on the pitch, and that's it. It's life. People will always criticize. So, no matter which coach you bring, people always have something to say,” the former Union Saint-Gilloise striker told Football Fans Tribe in an interview.
The striker will be hoping to lead the line for the Super Eagles of Nigeria when they take on Benin Republic in Uyo on Saturday.
