English Premier League clubs Arsenal and Chelsea may abandon their pursuit of Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen due to his high wage demands, Soccernet.ng reports.
Some of the biggest clubs in Europe have shown interest in signing Osimhen following his impressive performances for Napoli. The Nigerian striker has registered 76 goals and 18 assists for Napoli.
He was key in their Scudetto triumph two seasons ago with 26 goals, becoming the first Nigerian to win the Capocannoniere.
Despite the strong links and confirmation from Napoli’s director Giovanni Manna, no club has been able to seal the transfer for the 25-year-old striker.
It seemed like PSG were close to signing Osimhen two weeks ago after they reported agreed on personal terms, but the talks have cooled off. With this, Arsenal and Chelsea could pounce, but there is still a drawback.
According to Italian outlet CalcioNapoli, aside from his price tag, Chelsea are unwilling to meet his wage demands.
The former Lille striker is asking for €10 million per year, a fee that Chelsea are unwilling to meet, as that would make him one of the highest-paid players at the club.
Nonetheless, Osimhen and his camp could still compromise because of his desire to play in the Premier League. With the transfer market closing at the end of the month, either Chelsea or Arsenal would have to make their move ast
