Nigeria’s Sports Minister, John Enoh, has ignited excitement among football fans by hinting at an imminent announcement regarding the Super Eagles’ new head coach, Soccernet.ng reports.
During an appearance on Politics Tonight on Channels TV, Enoh revealed that the long-awaited decision is on the horizon, raising hopes that a new coach will soon take the helm of the national team.
The Super Eagles coaching position became vacant less than two months after Finidi George resigned from his role, leaving the team without a head coach as crucial qualification games loom.
With less than 30 days remaining until Nigeria’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying clash against the Republic of Benin, concerns have mounted within the Nigerian football community over the absence of a coach to guide the team to victory.
Acknowledging the urgency of the situation, Sports Minister Enoh assured fans that the appointment of a new head coach is imminent, stating, “The appointment will be sooner rather than later.”
In the wake of Finidi’s departure, several high-profile coaches have been linked to the Super Eagles job. These include Herve Renard, Eric Chelle, as well as local coaches like Samson Siasia and Salisu Yusuf.
Despite the speculation, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has yet to reveal its final choice, though it is clear that a coach must be in place before the next crucial match.
It shows how incompetent the NFF and Sports ministry are.. The qualifiers for AFCON is a golden opportunity for the coach to analyse his team and the opponents who incidentally are in the World Cup. He should have had the opportunity to scout his players to suit his formation for there 2 important games. But as always it will be the fire brigade approach. This is why across the board the national team has failed A corrupt FA and a poor Ministry . Do they not realise the affect of Nigeria has on the economy when they qualify for the World Cup and other events – how can they expect a manager to be paid pennants and then work wonders . A big names coach is paid 1000s . Give him a free hand and pay his back room staff . He has the AFCON games to prove his worth before the World Cup Matches- secondly supporters come out and support the team .fill the stadium so that money can be there to assist in finance . Nigeria businesses we need your sponsorship – what is the marketing boards doing ???
