Osimhen vs Lookman: When former Super Eagles coach claimed Atalanta star is better than Napoli ace

Former Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro recently weighed in on the debate over who is the better player between Nigerian stars Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen, both of whom are on the brink of major transfers this summer, Soccernet.ng reports.

Osimhen, who played a pivotal role in securing Napoli’s first Scudetto in 33 years during the 2022/23 season, has attracted significant interest from top European clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.

Lookman, on the other hand, shone brightly during the 2023/24 season, leading Atalanta to the Europa League title, and has caught the attention of Manchester City, Liverpool, and PSG, with Arsenal also reportedly considering a move.

Despite Osimhen’s status as one of Europe’s best centre-forwards, Peseiro offered higher praise for Lookman, particularly emphasising the Atalanta man’s technical abilities.

“Ademola is more technical than Osimhen, more inclined to create the game, and who is now also scoring. He is performing very well this year,” Peseiro told SportItalia via Football London

“He grew up with (Atalanta manager) Gian Piero Gasperini, now he is always playing, and we are happy with him. high level, he too can aspire to do great things.

“It’s no coincidence that they’ve both grown this year. This is because they’re both within a good system of play. Atalanta and Napoli want the ball, they want to play and attack. In these conditions, players get excited like this. Italian football has changed a lot in the last few years.”

Lookman’s future remains uncertain, with reports suggesting that Arsenal may bid £42.5 million plus defender Jakub Kiwior to secure his services.

Meanwhile, Lookman has reportedly agreed personal terms with PSG, although a move has yet to be finalised.

However, Osimhen’s massive €130 million release clause makes a move away from Napoli increasingly difficult.

While Chelsea reportedly want to sign Osimhen on a loan deal, the Nigerian forward has repeatedly rejected such offers and could be set to remain in Naples despite the potential arrival of Romelu Lukaku.
