Super Eagles and Real Sociedad striker, Sadiq Umar, is edging closer to a loan move away from San Sebastian after falling down the pecking order under Imanol Alguacil, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 27-year-old joined the txuri-urdin from Almeria in the summer of 2022, but couldn’t replicate his blistering form for his new side. To make things worse, he picked up a cruciate ligament injury weeks later, and that kept him out for the entire season.
After making a return from the lengthy injury, the ex-AS Roma forward lost his place in the team’s starting lineup, and whenever he’s been called upon, has struggled to find the back of the net, scoring just four goals in 50 games.
This season, Sadiq has started just two league games, making a further five substitute appearances from Real Socieadad’s 18 La Liga games so far.
In a bid to regain his form, the Nigerian striker wants to exit the Anoeta Stadium. As per Oma Akatugba, the former Rangers forward is in talks with Valencia over a six-month loan move, with a nine million euro option to buy clause included in the deal. The medicals are scheduled to take place soon.
Sadiq featured in the Super Eagles’ 2-1 loss to Rwanda back in November, and a loan move will be a breath of fresh air for the 1.97cm tall striker, with the hope of getting included in Nigeria’s AFCON 2025 squad.
