Club Brugge: Croatian youngster linked as Onyedika’s replacement ahead of January exit – reports

Club Brugge have reportedly identified a potential replacement for Raphael Onyedika, whose departure in the January transfer window appears increasingly likely, Soccernet.ng reports.

According to reports circulating in Belgian media outlets, citing Germanijak.hr, 22-year-old Croatian midfielder Leon Belcar has been listed among the candidates to replace the Nigerian international.

Belcar, currently playing for NK Varaždin, has impressed with his performances and could be a strong addition to the Belgian side’s midfield ranks.

Onyedika remains a key part of the team following a remarkable rise in form during the 2024/25 campaign, which earned him Club Brugge’s Player of the Month award for September, despite his red card controversy against Charleroi.

His contribution was evident in Club Brugge’s clash against Sturm Graz, where he delivered the crucial assist for the team’s only goal, securing a hard-fought victory, among other strong performances.

This uptick in form has led to a surge in Onyedika’s market value, increasing by €6 million (approximately ₦11.08 billion), bringing his total worth to €16 million. This valuation may not deter potential suitors, with several English clubs reportedly interested in the past.

Turkish giants Galatasaray are also said to have agreed on personal terms with Onyedika earlier, although their €5 million bid was rejected.

While these developments remain speculative, no official announcements have been made. It remains to be seen whether the Super Eagles defensive midfielder, whose contract with Club Brugge runs until 2027, will make a January move or honour his current deal.
