Fulham manager, Marco Silva, has criticised his team's failure to capitalise on crucial opportunities in their match against Manchester United, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Portuguese gaffer, speaking after the Cottagers' first 2024-25 English Premier League loss to the Red Devils, singled out missed chances, particularly from Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi, during key counter-attacks that could have turned the game in their favour.
Speaking in the post-match conference, Silva emphasised that better decision-making in these moments might have led to a different outcome.
“There were chances for Man United, but we also had our moments. We had two against one with Andreas Pereira and Alex (Iwobi) against Maguire, and there were other situations like four against two, three against two. We should have done much better in those moments,” Silva remarked via Fulham’s official website.
The match at Old Trafford remained goalless until late in the game, when Manchester United's manager Erik ten Hag made tactical substitutions.
Alejandro Garnacho and Joshua Zirkzee, who made his debut for the club, combined for the decisive goal. Zirkzee, of Nigerian descent, scored from Garnacho’s cross, sealing the victory for United.
Iwobi and his teammates will look to learn from their errors and secure their first win of the season, as Fulham prepares for their next fixture against Leicester City at Craven Cottage.
