“It’s an affront to the dignity of local coaches” – Remo Stars coach blasts NFF for Finidi George treatment

“It’s an affront to the dignity of local coaches” – Remo Stars coach blasts NFF for Finidi George treatment

Remo Stars coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, has claimed the way the Nigerian Football Federation treated Finidi George was disrespectful, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 44-year-old led the Sky Blue Stars to a second-place finish in the NPFL last season, as his team finished five points below Fidelis Ilechukwu's Enugu Rangers.

Speaking on the 54Footballx Match-up Podcast, the Remo Stars coach expressed his bitter feelings about how former Super Eagles coach, Finidi George, ended things with the Nigerian football team after just two games in charge.

“It’s an affront to the dignity of local coaches. Finidi was a thing of joy for us. I was so happy (even as the secretary of the league club managers), we wanted the best for him, but look at the way he (Finidi) was “jet” out, there was not enough support. If you want a coach to do well, give him better support. If any job is coming from the National team to any of the local coaches, there must be total support for the coach to excel,” the Remo Stars coach said.

Quizzed on what he'd do if he had the opportunity to coach the Super Eagles in the future, Ijaball mentioned he'd be up to the task.

“The truth is, if opportunity comes, it is a clarion call, this is our country and we can’t run away. I had the opportunity to stay in Europe, but what use is that if I can’t come back to my country to make things happen? No matter what I do, these guys will not respect us there, so the best thing is to bring this knowledge home and try to see how we all can benefit from it. So, if the opportunity comes, today or tomorrow, there is no room to say no. The national team is bigger than any one of us,” the former C.D., Feirense assistant manager concluded.

Since his exit from the Super Eagles role, Finidi George joined NPFL side, Rivers United, and was appointed as their head coach as he continues his managerial journey.
