Chelsea in pole position to sign Nigeria-eligible striker currently playing in the Paris Olympics

Chelsea in pole position to sign Nigeria-eligible striker currently playing in the Paris Olympics

English Premier League giants Chelsea are close to signing Nigeria-eligible striker Samu Omorodion from Atletico Madrid, Soccernet.ng reports.

Omorodion broke onto the scene at Atletico Madrid last season after scoring on his senior team debut in a La Liga fixture against Granada.

Following his performance in that game, several Spanish clubs expressed interest in acquiring his services, as it became evident that he was unlikely to get much playing time at Atlético Madrid.

Subsequently, Omorodion sealed a season-long loan transfer to fellow La Liga side Alaves. There, he was quite decent, registering eight goals and one assist in 35 appearances.

Following Omorodion's decent campaign with Alaves last season, he has been heavily linked with a transfer to the EPL side Chelsea, which has implemented a transfer policy that has seen them sign many young players in recent years.

The talks have been going on, and in a new development from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, both parties are close to reaching an agreement.

Atletico Madrid are set to accept Chelsea's €35 million bid, and the personal terms are waiting. Once everything is agreed upon, the Nigeria-eligible striker will become a Chelsea player.

The 20-year-old striker was born in Spain to Nigerian parents, making him eligible to play for both Spain and Nigeria. Currently, he represents Spain at the youth level, but he can still switch to Nigeria as he has not yet been capped by Spain's senior team.
