English Premier League side, Chelsea FC, have moved on from their long-term pursuit of Nigerian football star Victor Osimhen, by securing a personal agreement with Samu Omorodion, who is of Nigerian descent, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Super Eagles star has been on Chelsea’s radar since the start of the summer transfer window, with the club looking to boost their attacking lineup for the next season.
However, the transfer tussle between Osimhen’s camp and Chelsea has become increasingly unrealistic, with the club unable to meet Napoli’s price tag for Osimhen and the 25-year-old’s reluctance to move to Chelsea on loan.
In light of these developments, Chelsea have turned their attention to Spanish striker Omorodion and have agreed on personal terms with him.
Fabrizio Romano reported that Chelsea are set to finalize the signing of Samu Omorodion, with the player agreeing to a seven-year contract that will keep him at the club until June 2031.
The Italian journalist mentioned that personal terms have been settled, and Atlético Madrid will receive a £35 million fee for the transfer, as disclosed yesterday.
Romano added that the move will receive the green light once Atlético completes all final steps for the acquisition of Julián Álvarez.
This means that Osimhen is now left with options from Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, and Saudi Arabian clubs, with Chelsea pulling out of the race after securing an alternative to bolster their attack.
