Turkish Super Lig side, Trazbonspor, have reached an agreement with EPL side, Southampton, for the transfer of Super Eagles striker, Paul Onuachu, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 29-year-old spent the 2023/2024 season with Trabzonspor, scoring 17 goals in 24 games after joining on a season-long loan from Southampton who spent the campaign in the EFL Championships.
Trabzonspor’s President, Ertuğrul Doğan and coach Abdullah Avcı have been intentional in their attempt to keep the former Genk striker at the Şenol Güneş Papara Park, but The Saints were requesting nine million euros for the services of the 2.1m tall striker. Onuachu meanwhile has been involved in pre-season training with Southampton, scoring crackers.
According to the Turkish outlet, Yomra Sonhaber Gazette, Martin Russell’s team have reduced their asking price to just €7 million and Onuachu’s transfer to Trabzonspor is considered only a matter of time. The Karadeniz Fırtınası are expected to submit an official bid in the coming days.
Despite the progress with Onuachu, Trabzonspor continue to work hard in the transfer market, sourcing for options to shore up the team’s attack, one of which is former Manchester United man, Wout Weghorst. Their coach, Abdullah Avcı, is keen on starting the season strong, as he looks to go toe-to-toe with Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe SK.
Although he featured sparingly, Onuachu was a part of the Super Eagles team that claimed a silver medal at the AFCON 2023 tournament in Ivory Coast earlier this year.
