Nigeria-eligible striker Josh Kayode joins Shrewsbury Town on loan

Rotherham United and Republic of Ireland striker, Joshua Akinola Kayode, has joined Shrewsbury Town on a season-long loan, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 24-year-old has been at Rotherham since 2017, coming through the Millers youth set-up before making his debut in a Football League Trophy game against Manchester City's U-21 team.

Kayode was transfer-listed after spending the last four seasons on loan with Chesterfield, MK Dons, Carlisle United, and Gateshead, with his best spell coming at Carlisle, where he scored 11 goals and provided four assists in 45 games.

With his contract expiring in the summer of 2025, the versatile forward has left the club again, this time joining EFL League Two side, Shrewsbury Town, on a season-long loan, as reported by Vital Football.

🖊️ Shrewsbury Town are thrilled to announce the signing of striker Joshua Kayode on loan from Rotherham.

🤩 JJ put pen to paper in Yorkshire today but will be at the Croud Meadow tomorrow for our friendly against Derby.

Kayode was born in Lagos, Nigeria, but grew up in the Republic of Ireland, and it appears his tent is pitched with the European nation. He was called up to the Irish U-21 team for the first time in October 2020 ahead of their European Championship qualifier against Italy, but he's yet to feature for the senior team. He scored his first goal for the U-21 team the following month against Luxembourg.
