“I was shocked” – Ex-Flying Eagles star reveals how Wayne Rooney influenced his move to England

Former Nigeria Flying Eagles striker Muhammad Tijani has shared the behind-the-scenes details of his move from Slavia Prague to Plymouth Argyle, Soccernet.ng reports.

The EFL Championship side, now under the management of former Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney, has signed Tijani on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy.

Speaking to OJB Sports, Tijani expressed his surprise at receiving a call from Rooney, who was keen on signing him from the Czech First League to Plymouth.

“Actually, he [Wayne Rooney] did. He is a football legend not only in England but in the whole world. He plays like a striker also [like me]. [So] I think it is a good move for me, that’s why I took the deal. He really influenced the move, because when he called I was like ‘wow! Look who is calling, it’s Wayne Rooney.’ I was shocked. I had to ask my agent, ‘are you sure it’s him?’ He said, ‘yes, it’s him, of course, just take the call,’ and then we spoke, and it was very good,” he said.

Since May, it was anticipated that Tijani would leave Slavia, and the club had allowed him to find a new team. Now, he has completed his transfer to the English Championship, the second tier of football in England.

Slavia will benefit from a loan fee and a substantial share of any future transfer fee if Tijani’s move becomes permanent.

Plymouth Argyle, who barely escaped relegation last season by finishing a single point above the danger zone, has since hired former Manchester United star for better season.
