Everton invite Nigeria legend as special guest as Toffees wave goodbye to Goodison Park

Everton will bid farewell to Goodison Park at the end of the 2024-25 season, and to mark this historic moment, the club has invited Nigeria legend Daniel Amokachi as a special guest for the celebrations, Soccernet.ng reports.

Goodison Park, located in the Walton area of Liverpool, has been Everton's home since 1892, with a capacity of 39,414.

Initially, Everton planned to move to a new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock in 2024, but the move is now set for the end of the 2024-25 season. The final match at Goodison Park will be on Sunday, 18 May 2025.

As part of the farewell celebrations, Everton will host a series of events. One such event will feature Amokachi, alongside cult heroes Lee Carsley and Thomas Gravesen, as per Birkenhead.

They will join members of Sean Dyche’s first-team squad and special guest host Leon Osman in August.

Amokachi, who is now 51, had a memorable stint at Everton from 1994 to 1996, winning the FA Cup in 1995.

He is fondly remembered for his two goals in the semi-final against Tottenham Hotspur and his celebratory beret after the final.

Other Nigerian players who have worn the Everton shirt include Joseph Yobo, Yakubu Aiyegbeni, Victor Anichebe, Hope Akpan, Alex Iwobi, and Ademola Lookman.

Everton in the Community, the club’s charity arm, has announced plans for live music events as part of the farewell festival.

The “Farewell to Goodison Festival” will feature three nights and an afternoon of live music from 30 May to 1 June 2025, with evening sessions running from 5 pm to 10 pm and a Saturday show for young people from 1 pm to 3 pm.

Each evening will highlight different music genres such as dance, pop, and guitar music.

Permission from Liverpool Council’s licensing department will be required for these events, similar to the approval obtained for concerts at Anfield.

The club plans to build a stage for 20,000 fans in front of the Gwladys Street end, with a smaller capacity for the junior event.
