WATCH: Nigeria star Victor Osimhen donates N50 million to charity after public spat with Finidi George

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has committed to donate the sum of fifty million naira (N50 million) to charity, Soccernet.ng reports.

Osimhen was a guest of honour at the Attom Foundation's awareness event for the Charity Champions Cup in Abuja on Saturday, June 15.

The occasion had in attendance some of football's most celebrated names including Arsenal great Robert Pires and former Chelsea man Claude Makelele. Two of Nigeria's greatest-ever players Austin Okocha and Nwankwo Kanu were also present at the event.

The Attom Foundation put the show together to raise awareness and funds for the provision of essential eye care services for 10,000 elderly persons in Nigeria.

In support of the cause, Osimhen pledged N50 million to old cheers and applause from many at the party.

Infuriated Osimhen lashes at Finidi on Instagram Live

Meanwhile, hours before making his presence felt at the Attom Foundation's Charity event, Osimhen had been involved in a dramatic spat with Super Eagles head coach Finidi George.

The Napoli striker aimed his anger at Super Eagles coach Finidi George, saying he has lost respect for him due to comments about his attitude towards the national team.

Some local reports (not Soccernet.ng) claimed Finidi said he would not beg Osimhen to play after the striker withdrew from the last two 2026 World Cup qualifiers due to injury.

Osimhen was sidelined by a four-week injury and was replaced by Enugu Rangers defender Kenneth Igboke.

Following poor performances by the Super Eagles against South Africa and Benin Republic, reports emerged that Finidi had blamed Osimhen’s absence on the player's attitude when he and Nigeria Football Federation officials met with Sports Minister John Enoh in Abuja.

Angered by these comments, Osimhen addressed the situation in a live Instagram video on Saturday.

He explained the circumstances of his withdrawal, stating that Finidi and his doctor were fully informed.

“I knew things like this would happen, so I have videos and screenshots of my call with Finidi while I was with the doctor in Germany,” Osimhen said.

“I got injured in our last game against Lecce and went for an MRI scan. I called Finidi to let him hear from the doctor too. I wanted to join the camp to be with the team, but he said I should stay with my family.

“I always play with my heart for both club and country. I'll share the evidence of my conversation with Finidi for those doubting me. I've lost respect for him because I always respect others before I disrespect them.”

In Finidi’s first game in charge, Nigeria drew 1-1 with South Africa in Uyo and lost 2-1 to Benin Republic in Abidjan, leaving the Super Eagles with just three points from four games in the qualifiers.

Finidi has reportedly resigned from his role as Super Eagles coach two days after the Nigeria Football Federation announced plans to hire a foreign technical adviser.
