Top 3 candidates for Super Eagles coaching job post-Finidi’s exit

The departure of Finidi George as head coach of the Super Eagles has left Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) scrambling to fill the vacant coaching position, Soccernet.ng reports.

With the next window for the Super Eagles' matches scheduled for September, the NFF has ample time to select the ideal candidate to lead the team into the World Cup.

As of the time of writing, three top contenders have emerged for the coaching position, each bringing unique strengths and experiences to the table:

1. Antonio Conceicao

With an outstanding coaching career spanning several countries, Antonio Conceicao brings a wealth of experience to the Super Eagles coaching role.

His tenure with CFR Cluj in Romania and coaching stints in Cyprus and Saudi Arabia have earned him a reputation for tactical skills and player development.

Despite a successful run with the Cameroonian national team, his dismissal in 2022 leaves him hungry for a return to coaching, making him a compelling candidate for the Super Eagles coaching job.

2. Samson Siasia

A familiar face in Nigerian football, Samson Siasia brags an impressive coaching resume, particularly with youth teams.

His leadership led Nigeria's Under-20 and Under-23 teams to podium finishes in various international tournaments, including the Olympic Games.

Despite a FIFA ban related to match-fixing, Siasia's impending return to coaching positioned him as a strong contender for the Super Eagles role, bringing with him a legacy of success and a hunger to prove himself once again on the international stage.

3. Salisu Yusuf

Salisu Yusuf's coaching journey has been marked by highs and lows, from winning titles with Kano Pillars to facing controversy over a cash gift scandal.

Despite the setback, Yusuf's experience as Assistant Coach of the Super Eagles and Head Coach of the Super Eagles B team showcases his understanding of Nigerian football and player development.

His reinstatement by the NFF stresses their confidence in his abilities, making him a viable candidate to lead the Super Eagles forward.

Instead of Suggesting Credible names like Herve Renard you are putting Local coaches to come and do what?… You people don’t realise we are about to Miss 2 world Cups on the bounce… You journalists had better oull up your socks and make credible suggestions

Nff have come again with their politics. Super eagles team presently don’t need a local coach. If you employ a local coach to handle super eagles, it will end in crises and shame because the players will not respect and honour him. Nff should give super eagles a good experience foreign coach that can qualify Super eagles to the World Cup.

No sane person will bring Salisu Yusuf to coach the Super Eagles. I will rather have Abdu Maikaba. In Country where we have the likes of Siasia, Oliseh, Egbo, Emenalo. The best thing is to go for a foreign coach like Bernd Schuster, Jean Tigana, Klaus Aloffs, klaus augenthaler, Harve Renard

The NFF seem not to be ready to move Nigerian football forward, we keep repeating the same mistake while our Football continue to dwindle.
If we want to qualify for world cup, NFF should appoint a foreign coach with a good resume or else we will be chasing shadows.

NFF!! You people have started again…. Salisu what? I think someone in that NFF is playing around with Nigerians heart like dice. I don’t know what you people have got against Emmanuel Amunike to give him the job so he can bring us back to our glory days again, But if you want to stick with a local coach Salisu name is an error to come into the list. Samson siasia or Emmanuel Amunike are both Nigerians favorite choices. Nevertheless If it has to be a foreign coach then pick a good foreign coach with pedigree that has got an awesome CV
