Newly promoted English Premier League side, Southampton have launched an official bid for Super Eagles and Fenerbahçe full-back, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 26-year-old versatile defender was an integral part of the Yellow and Blacks’ incredible journey as they narrowly missed out on the Turkish Super Lig title last season. He played 23 games, scored four goals and provided two assists.
His impressive performances in the just-concluded season has seen him linked with a move abroad with Leeds United, Crystal Palace, West Ham United and Southampton who are all keen on his services.
As per the Turkish outlet, AS Marca, The Saints have made a bid in the region of £6.5m to the Turkish club as they look to tempt Osayi with a return to England.
However they face huge competition, as the prospect of playing under the new manager, Jose Mourinho excites the former Queens Park Rangers defender.
Fenerbahce have also offered a new two-year deal to the Nigerian international who enters into the final twelve months of his current contract, but he is yet to make a decision.
Southampton are preparing for life back in the top flight and boss Russell Martin is making moves in the transfer market. Left-back Charlie Taylor is expected to move to Southampton on a free transfer from Burnley and now Martin is looking to Turkey for another defender.
They will have to now wait to see whether their offer is acceptable and the final decision over selling Osayi-Samuel is likely to come down to Mourinho.
Should Osayi stall in making a decision regards their contract offer, the Turkish club will look to sell him, as they risk losing him for free next summer.
