Transfer: Getafe eye Super Eagles forward as a replacement for Mason Greenwood

Sadiq Umar is yet to hit form after sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament injury with Real Sociedad in 2022.

Spanish La Liga side, Getafe, are weighing up a bid for Super Eagles and Real Sociedad striker, Sadiq Umar, as a replacement for Mason Greenwood, Soccernet.ng reports.

Greenwood, under contract with Manchester United, is currently on loan with Getafe after the three-time UEFA Champions League winners made it clear that the 22-year-old will continue his career away from the club due to the circumstances that led to his initial suspension.

Nonetheless, the England international looks to have found his foot in Spain, scoring 10 goals and providing six assists in 34 games for Jose Bordalas‘s men this season.

The Azulones however, face difficulty as other European top clubs are interested in the ambipedal forward. As per The Sun, a Saudi Pro League club bid £50million-plus for the Englishman. Barcelona, Juventus and Atletico Madrid are also interested in Greenwood, while Getafe want to keep him for at least, another six months.

With Greenwood’s future in Getafe unsure, the Spanish side have launched their search for his replacement, with Sadiq Umar fitting the ideal needs of Jose Bordolas.

The Super Eagles frontman is under contract with Real Sociedad until 2028 but has struggled to regain his best form since he sustained an Anterior cruciate ligament damage in 2022.

The 27-year-old has scored just three goals in 36 games across La Liga, the Spanish Cup and the Europa League. His poor form has seen him fall down the txuri-urdin pecking order as the club coach, Imanol, prefers Andre Silva and Sheraldo Becker.

According to the Sun, Getafe are rated as a major admirer of the ex-Roma star,  who had his best career stint with Almeria where he scored 43 goals in 84 games.

With his poor run of form, it is unlikely that Umar will be called up for Nigeria’s World Cup qualifiers in June, as Victor Osimhen, Victor Boniface, and Cyriel Dessers all have impressive goal-scoring numbers.
