Former AS Roma manager, Jose Mourinho, has been linked with a move to be Bright Osayi’s new coach as Fenerbahce SK line up a lucrative deal for the Portuguese gaffer, Soccernet.ng reports.
Since Mourinho’s exit as the manager of the Wolves, the 61-year-old tactician has been without a club to manage, but has been linked to coaching Saudi Arabian clubs among others.
With latest reports circulating in Turkish media, the former Chelsea boss has become a subject matter as one of the candidates for the role of Fenerbahce’s Presidency, Aziz Yıldırım, has reportedly revealed appointing Mourinho is one of this agenda if elected.
This means that Mourinho, who once coached former Super Eagles player, Mikel Obi, when he was at Chelsea will do the same for Osayi-Samuel who is a player for Fenerbahce.
Three Premier League clubs—Crystal Palace, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Leeds United—are vying for the signature of Osayi-Samuel, a versatile right wing-back for Fenerbahçe and the Super Eagles.
The 26-year-old, who performed well in AFCON 2023, is valued at around ten million euros. Crystal Palace is particularly interested, aiming to pair him with Eberechi Eze.
Despite competition and interest from clubs outside England, Palace hopes to secure Osayi-Samuel as part of their long-term plans.
With one year left of Osayi-Samuel’s contract, Fenerbahçe are reportedly set to extend the contract of the Nigerian international, who has excelled this season in Turkey.
The club plans to improve his current 600,000 euros annual salary and secure a three-year extension beyond his current deal, which expires in June 2025.
This move aims to recognize his contributions and deter transfer interest from clubs.
According to reports, Yıldırım has revealed that he had a meeting with Mourinho, and this has raised hope of the Fenerbahce fans with someone of Mourinho’s quality coming to lead them to more victories.
This means that Osayi-Samuel would also be mentored by Mourinho just like he did for his compatriot, Mikel Obi.
