Nottingham Forest coach Nuno Espirito Santo has stated that he is unsure of Taiwo Awoniyi’s availability for their Premier League game against Manchester City on Sunday, Soccernet.ng reports.
Awoniyi has been struggling with injuries since he joined Nottingham Forest two years ago. Last season, the 25-year-old striker missed 15 games because of a groin injury. However, this season, the Nigerian striker has not gotten better.
Awoniyi had to undergo surgery at the turn of the year to correct a groin injury, and that was why he missed over two months of action at first. It seemed like that would end his problems, but that is not the case.
Awoniyi has missed the Tricky Trees’ last six games because of an injury, and his return date has been under the balance.
Last week, Santo announced that the Nigerian striker was back in training but not fit enough to play. And ahead of Nottingham Forests’ game against Nottingham Forest on Sunday, per the BBC, Santo has placed Awoniyi’s availability as he’d have to undergo a late fitess test to ascertain if he can make it.
Awoniyi’s return would give Nottingham Forest a big boost heading into the final four games of the season. They currently sit 17th in the league, one point above Luton Town in 18th.
