Belgian Jupiler League club Gent are set to complete the signing of Nigerian striker Anosike Ementa from Danish club Viborg FF, Soccernet.ng reports.
Gent have not signed a replacement for Super Eagles star Gift Orban since he left for Ligue 1 giants Lyon in January. The Nigerian attacker was superb in his one-year stay at the club, registering 32 goals and two assists in 52 appearances for Gent. Eventually, they got €12 million in transfer fees from Lyon, almost triple the fee they paid Stabaek for Orban twelve months before.
Going into next season, the Buffaloes would need a new talisman to lead their front line, and it seems they have found one. According to Danish Scout, Gent have agreed on a deal with Danish club Viborg FF for 21-year-old Ementa. The fee is around €1 million, and he is expected to sign a long-term contract.
Ementa is quite similar to Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu in build and style of play. At 6ft 6, Ementa has quite a towering figure. He also likes to be involved in play, as he often drops back when needed. He is also domineering in aerial situations. This season, Ementa has registered nine goals and four assists in 27 appearances for Viborg.
Ementa has a Nigerian father and a Danish mother. As such, he can play for any of the two countries. However, he identifies as a Danish player, albeit he has not played for the senior national team. Hence, Ementa can still play for the Super Eagles if he measures up.
