Matchday 28 of the NPFL 2023/2024 season was filled with action and entertainment as surprises bloomed from home to away ends. Soccernet.ng brings the round-up of the notable events from the NPFL midweek action.
Gombe United kicked Matchday 28 off as they welcomed Daniel Ogunmodede’s Remo Stars to the Isa Pantami Stadium on Tuesday, but both sides were left frustrated at the end of the ninety as the game ended in a goalless draw.
Wednesday started with a rare away win for Doma United. The Gombe locals secured a 1-0 win over Akwa United, thanks to a seventh-minute goal from Emmanuel Jesam. Jesam’s goal saw Doma United claim three points for the first time since January, ending their run of thirteen games without a win.
A second-half strike from Obi Samson was enough to give Plateau United a win over Abia Warriors, putting them two points within the top four places.
Bayelsa United left it late at the Samson Siasia Stadium to take all three points away from Heartland. Fabby Clark scored in the additional minutes of the ninety to take his team out of the relegation spots into 15th place on the NPFL table.
Kalu Nweke and Onyebuchi Ifeanyi got on the scoresheet to seal a 2-0 win for Enugu Rangers over Sunshine Stars. Rangers remain top of the League, three points above Finidi George’s Enyimba.
Enyimba were on fire as they put five past Kano Pillars at home. A brace from Joseph Atule, and goals from Mbaoma Chijioke, Ekwutoziam Eze and Alade Muyiwa sealed three points for title-chasing Enyimba as they look to win the NPFL title for the second season running.
A heavy defeat didn’t stop NPFL Legend, 43-year-old Rabiu Ali from taking pictures and exchanging jerseys with Golden Eaglet, 17-year-old Daniel Daga.
43 years young 😍😍😍 Why wouldn’t you just love Rabiu Ali.
Everyone does. Despite the 5-0 thrashing in the hands of Enyimba, Kano Pillars and NPFL legend, Rabiu Ali still finds time to share the spirit of sportsmanship with opposing players and even coach Finidi George
