Paris FC goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie, shared a surprising revelation about her past before becoming a world-class keeper for her club and country, as reported by Soccernet.ng.

The Super Falcons star garnered recognition as the best goalkeeper in the women's category by the Confederation of African Football following her outstanding performance at her club and during the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.

In a conversation with BBC Pidgin, the 23-year-old goalkeeper disclosed that she had previously played as a striker during her early days, indicating a significant shift in her role that ultimately led to her success.

“I used to play as a striker before. It was in 2012 that I switched to goalkeeper,” she said.

Nnadozie's journey to success began with her remarkable talent displayed at the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, where she was named the “Dare to Shine” Player of the Match against Haiti.

Her achievements continued as she joined the Super Falcons for the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup, becoming the youngest goalkeeper to keep a clean sheet in a historic 2–0 victory over Korea.

She further solidified her reputation by helping the Falconets secure a Gold medal at the African Games in Morocco, saving three crucial penalties in the shootout against Cameroon.

Reflecting on her journey, Nnadozie credited her mother for her unwavering support and encouragement, particularly during challenging times.

“My mother is my saviour in this world. If not for her, imagine when both your father and mother refuse to let you do something. It would be over,” she expressed gratefully.

As Nnadozie gears up for future challenges, including the upcoming second leg of the Olympic qualifiers against South Africa, she will be hoping to continue with her impressive performance.
