Super Eagles and Napoli striker, Victor James Osimhen, expects his Napoli farewell to be an emotional one, hinting he could be moved to tears at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 25-year-old joined Napoli from French Ligue 1 side, LOSC Lille in 2020, and has turned out to be a gem for the Italian side, scoring over 70 goals and winning the club’s third Serie A title.
In four seasons at the club, Osimhen has grown to become a favourite and despite renewing his contract with the club in December, he has been linked with a move away from Italy, with Manchester United, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain interested.
In a recent interview with Betsson Sport, the former Wolfsburg man was asked to describe how the fans in Napoli have made him feel, and he responded, calling the city his second home.
“Extraordinary. For me, it’s absolutely incredible. I’ve been in football for about seven years now and I say it in every interview when they ask me about Napoli fans. When I have to look for a word to describe them, I am speechless because they are electrifying, I have never seen anything like this that takes football so seriously the way fans support the team is truly unbelievable. I have played in other clubs, but the passion that the Neapolitans have for their club is out of this world,” the former Charleroi man said.
Osimhen described the citizens of Naples as the best fans in the world. The love they’ve shown him made him understand why legends like Marek Hamsik, Lorenzo Insigne and Edinson Cavani were emotional during their departure, hinting at what could be the setting stone for him should he exit the club in the summer.
“They are among the best fans in the world for how they support their team and how they live their everyday lives making sure the identity of this club is connected to them. Sometimes I understand why some legends of the past cried when they left Naples because it is an extraordinary emotion to play in the stadium and hear your name shouted from the first minute to the 90th, supporting the team and cheering,” the Super Eagles striker added.
Osimhen has scored 15 goals in 28 games for Napoli across all competitions this season, adding eight assists alongside.
