“He will score same number of goals”- Ex-Portugal star urges Napoli to challenge Chelsea for Swedish striker if Osimhen leaves

“He will score same number of goals”- Ex-Portugal star urges Napoli to challenge Chelsea for Swedish striker if Osimhen leaves

Retired Portugal midfielder Jose Luis Vidigal has advised Napoli to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon if Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen leaves the club, Soccernet.ng reports.

Osimhen has emerged as a target for top European clubs due to his impressive performances for Napoli in the last two years. Last season, he was unsung, registering 26 goals in 38 appearances to help the club claim their first Scudetto in over 30 years.

Following his performance last season, Osimhen was linked with a transfer away from Naples, Manchester United, Chelsea, Real Madrid, and PSG as touted destinations. Still, he remained put and signed a contract extension that would keep him at the club till 2026.

However, the Nigerian attacker looks to be edging close to a move in the summer, albeit his next destination is unknown. Napoli would likely demand around $130 million for a deal, and they would look to re-invest in a replacement.

Former Portugal international Vidigal, who had a four-year stint at Napoli, has advised the club to try to sign Swedish star Gyokeres with the proceeds from Osimhen's sale. This is because he believes that the Sporting Lisbon man can perform on the same level as Osimhen.

“Osimhen will leave and Napoli will need a strong striker. If Gyokeres comes to Italy he will score as many goals as Osimhen did. In every match he will amaze,” Vidigal told Napoli Magazine.

Gyokeres has 22 goals and nine assists in the Portuguese league this season, and the Sweden international already has suitors, as Chelsea and Arsenal have been linked with him.

The season is just over a month away from ending, and after the end of the campaign, Osimhen's next destination will be made clear.

He does this because he thinks the player from Sporting Lisbon can play as well as Osimhen.
