Why striking sensation Seimeyeha and six other girls were dropped from Nigeria’s African Games squad

Teenage Super Falconets sensation, Janet Seimeyeha Akekoromewie, alongside six other Nigerian players will not be participating in the 13th edition of the African Games, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 13th African Games kicks off in Ghana tomorrow and the tournament will be held between the 8th and 23rd of March, 2024 and across the Cities of Accra, Kumasi, and Cape Coast.

The Nigerian Golden Eaglets and the Super Falconets will be participating in the football competitions as they aim for gold, but as Soccernet.ng understands, there has been a reshuffle in the players that will be competing in the tournament.

Seimeyeha, who scored in the Super Falconets FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup qualifier win over Tanzania at the MKO Abiola stadium in November 2023 will not be participating in the 13th edition of the African Games, alongside six of her teammates due to the CAF rules.

Soccernet.ng understands that only players born between the years of 2002 to 2006 are eligible to participate, meaning even though the players made the team's final list, they are ineligible for participation in the tournament.

Akekoromewei, 17, stands tall at 1.86m and is already making waves for the U-20 female team in attack despite being one of the youngest in the group. She plies her trade in Lagos with the Asisat Oshoala Academy.

Chris Danjuma will be in charge of the girls as they take on Morocco and Senegal en route to bringing a gold medal back home.
