Victor or Viktor? Chelsea send scouts to watch Sporting Lisbon striker who’s considered as Osimhen’s alternative

Chelsea are eyeing £86m rated Swedish striker, Viktor Gyökeres, as an alternative to Napoli's Victor Osimhen ahead of their summer transfer overhaul, Soccernet.ng reports.

Victor Osimhen's goalscoring form hit the roof last season, as he won the CAF Player of the Year award, alongside the Serie A golden boot, with 26 league goals to his name.

Due to injuries, the form of the 25-year-old Nigerian striker has hit the buffers this season, but the former Wolfsburg man still has a decent turn-out of 13 goals in 24 games across all club competitions for Napoli.

In Portugal, Swedish striker, Viktor Gyökeres is making waves with his 50 goal contributions in just 39 games, even prompting the coach of the Swede national team, Jon Dahl Tomasson to play Newcastle's Aleksandar Isak out wide.

As per The Daily Mail, Chelsea scouts were in attendance to watch Viktor Gyökeres play for Sweden in their heavy 5-2 loss to Bruno Fernandes' Portugal on Thursday night.

Despite the heavy loss by Jon Dahl Tomasson's side, the Sporting Lisbon striker got on the scoresheet in seventy minutes of game time at the Estadio Dom Alfonso Henriques in Portugal.

The 25-year-old who has spent time at Coventry City, St. Pauli, Brighton and Hove Albion, and Swansea has a £86m release clause in his contract, compared to Victor Osimhen's £113m and appears to be a cheaper option to the Napoli talisman.

Mauricio Pochettino has had to depend on the inconsistencies of Nicolas Jackson this term, and the effects are eveident as the two-time UEFA Champions League winners languish in the bottom half of the English Premier League table, and is desperate for things to change, hence the search for a top goalscorer up-front.

With Chelsea's recent interest in Gyökeres, it will be interesting to see how their transfer plansfor the summer shapes up as they have to make sales to balance the books to avoid breaching the financial fair play rules.
