African Games: Senegal eliminate Ladan Bosso’s woeful Flying Eagles

The Flying Eagles of Nigeria have been eliminated from the 2024 African Games following a 3-2 defeat to Senegal in Ghana, as reported by Soccernet.ng.

Ladan Bosso’s side, after a hard-fought victory against South Sudan, where Sadiq Isiaka’s penalty secured the win, faced another setback against the Senegalese team.

The seven-time U-20 Africa Cup of Nations champions needed just a draw to progress to the next round, but Senegal dashed their hopes with a determined performance.

Charles Agada, who impressed for Nduka Ugbade’s Golden Eagles at the U-17 AFCON tournament opened the scoring in the second minute for the Flying Eagles.

However, Senegal quickly responded, with Idrissa Gueye leveling the score and then putting his team ahead before halftime.

Although Nigeria fought back early in the second half with Chibueze Izuogu’s equalizer, Senegal regained the lead through a goal in the 65th minute, ultimately securing victory.

Despite Nigeria’s late efforts and even being reduced to 10 men, Senegal held on to their advantage until the final whistle, ending the Flying Eagles’ hopes of progressing in the competition.

The result sees the Flying Eagles finishing third in Group B, with only three points, four goals scored, and five conceded, marking a disappointing end to their African Games campaign.
