Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu could return to action for Trabzonspor when they play against Bright Osayi-Samuel’s Fenerbahce side next week, Soccernet.ng reports.
Onuachu joined Trabzonspor last summer on a season-long loan deal from Southampton, and he has proved his mettle since he joined the club.
In the first half of the season, the Nigerian hitman registered nine goals and three assists for Trabzonspor, earning himself a place in the Super Eagles squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Onuachu helped the Super Eagles to the final of the tournament, making four appearances. Unfortunately, they suffered a 2-1 loss to Ivory Coast.
After the AFCON, Onuachu returned to Trabzonspor and was slowly re-integrated into the team. However, in his first start, the 29-year-old sustained a fracture in his arm and a muscle injury in his left groin.
Initially, Onuachu was ruled out for six weeks, meaning he would return to action by the second week of April. However, in a new development, Turkish outlet Takagazete have reported that Onuachu wants to hasten his recovery process so he can play for Trabzonspor in their cracker against Fenerbahce on March 17.
Trabzonspor currently sit third in the Turkish league, 27 points behind Fenerbahce, who are second. The game has proven to be a tough tie for both sides, and coach Avci Abdullah would hope that his highest goalscorer, Onuachu, can be patched up in time for the tie.
