The big striker played an important role for Nigeria at the AFCON, but just like some of his national teammates, he has sustained an injury
Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu has been ruled out of action for a month after he sustained an injury in Trabzonspor’s 1-0 win over Istanbul Basaksehir on Wednesday, Soccernet.ng reports.
Onuachu was part of Nigeria’s squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast. He was second choice to Napoli star man Victor Osimhen, as he made four appearances for Nigeria, all of which were off the bench.
Following the conclusion of the AFCON, the big 29-year-old hitman returned to his Turkish club Trabzonspor. He was slowly eased into the action as he played three minutes in his first game. In his second game, he played 28 minutes.
Then, in Trabzonspor’s last game after Istanbul Basaksehir, he led the line from the start. Unfortunately for him, he sustained an injury in the fixture.
According to a report by Milliyet, Onuachu suffered a fracture on his arms and will be out of action for at least a month. He follows the long list of Nigerian players who have sustained injuries after the AFCON.
Onuachu is currently on loan from Southampton, and he has registered nine goals with three assists for Trabzonspor this season.
