Banyana Banyana defender Noko Matlou has expressed confidence in South Africa's ability to overcome Nigeria in the upcoming Olympic qualifiers final round, Soccernet.ng reports.

Randy Waldrum’s team secured their spot in the next round of the qualification tie with a 1-0 aggregate victory over Cameroon, while South Africa defeated Tanzania to advance.

Looking ahead to the final round of the Olympic qualifying round, veteran defender Matlou believes Banyana Banyana will qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

“I believe we have a chance to qualify for the Olympics, I do believe we will qualify,” Matlou stated confidently, as quoted by SABC.

In their previous encounter during the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Group stage clash, Banyana emerged victorious with a 2-1 win over Nigeria.

Matlou points out that South Africa's recent success against Nigeria, having won their last four meetings, gives them confidence going into the qualifiers.

“We played Nigeria a few times, and we won the last four games we played against them – favor is on our side, we will do well against Nigeria,” she added.

Both teams will battle it out in the final round of qualifiers, with the first leg scheduled to be held at the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on Friday, 5th April, followed by the second leg in South Africa on the 9th of April.
