‘I still have something to offer’ – 34-year-old Rangers CEO Amobi declares after win against Nigeria Tornadoes

Enugu Rangers CEO, Amobi Ezeaku, made his debut for the Flying Antelopes in their Nigeria Premier Football League clash against Niger Tornadoes

The CEO of Nigeria Premier League Football side Rangers International Enugu, Amobi Ezeaku, has responded to his surprising debut for the club, as reported by Soccernet.ng.

The news of the 34-year-old administrator being spotted and signed as a player by the club's coach, Fidelis Illechukwu, has sparked discussions within the Nigerian football community.

Ezeaku, registered as a footballer for the second half of the 2023/2024 NPFL season, was included in the team’s matchday squad against Niger Tornadoes, wearing the number eleven jersey.

Addressing the situation on Sports Salsa via Kennis 104.1 FM with Dr. Mitchell Obi, Ezeaku explained that the decision was made by the coaching staff after observing his skills during training sessions.

“I didn’t decide, the coaching crew decided,” he stated. “I train with the team all the time, and they felt I still have something to offer on the pitch. Coach Ilechukwu is not a small coach in the system.”

Regarding his age, Ezeaku affirmed that he remains fit for football at 34 years old.

Reflecting on his debut, Ezeaku believes he has demonstrated his worth by contributing to the team's significant away win against Niger Tornadoes.

Following their victory, where Nwobodo and Obaje scored two goals each, Ezeaku emphasized that his inclusion in the team is solely based on his sporting merit.

“My inclusion in the team is based on sporting merit and nothing more,” he asserted.

As Rangers International prepares to host Kwara United at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium in Enugu, Ezeaku aims to silence any doubters by aiding the team in their title challenge.
