Former Arsenal defender William Gallas has iterated that Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is not the solution to Arsenal's problems, Soccernet.ng reports.
Chelsea have been a shadow of themselves since Todd Boehly acquired the club in 2022. The American businessman has changed the transfer structure of the club since he joined, and, unfortunately for him, the decision has not paid off.
Last season, Chelsea finished 12th in the Premier League, and this season, they currently sit 11th, with 36 points after 26 games. The Blues have been poor on both ends of the pitch, conceding goals aplenty. Also, they have struggled in the final third, with their new signings struggling to find their feet.
Senegalese striker Nicolas Jackson has eight goals in the Premier League this season, but he could have easily scored more than double that if he was more clinical in front of goal.
Christopher Nkunku, who they got from RB Leipzig last season, has also struggled with injuries.
In an attempt to bolster their frontline, the Blues are looking to sign Nigerian attacker Osimhen, who has been beastly in front of goal in the last two years.
However, Gallas, who played for both Chelsea and Arsenal, believes Osimhen may not be the key to solving the Blues' issues.
“Victor Osimhen to Chelsea? One player won't make the difference and change things around for Chelsea,” Gallas told Lord Ping per Football London.
“Even if they buy one striker, you have to be sure the players around him have the quality to supply that striker.
“The squad is very young, so next year we may see an improvement in the team, and they might compete for the Premier League.
“We have to see how many goals Nicolas Jackson will score, he has eight at the moment. If Jackson cannot reach 15 Premier League goals or more, then Chelsea need a top striker because, at the moment, they don't have it.”
Osimhen is a top target for Chelsea and Arsenal. Also, PSG could swoop in for the 25-year-old hitman for as they prepare for life without Osimhen.
