Former AFC Ajax winger George Finidi has held his first meeting with the members of his technical staff in his new role as the interim coach of the Super Eagles, Soccernet.ng reports.
Finidi, who also doubled as the chief coach of NPFL champions Enyimba, was the assistant to Jose Peseiro during the Portuguese gaffer’s 22-month spell as Super Eagles head coach.
Together, they guided the Nigerian national team to a second-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.
However, Peseiro left his role at the end of the competition, and the Nigeria Football Federation subsequently declared the position vacant and invited interested candidates to apply for the job.
A permanent appointment is yet to be made, but the NFF is expected to name a new substantial head coach for the Super Eagles before the next round of World Cup qualifiers in June.
In the meantime, however, the Super Eagles are scheduled to engage in two friendly games against Ghana and Mali on March 22nd and 26th, respectively.
The NFF has asked Finidi to step up as the interim coach and lead the team against Ghana’s Black Stars and Mali’s Eagles.
The Enyimba manager has landed in Marrakech, where the Super Eagles have opened camp ahead of the doubleheader warmup matches.

Finidi held his first meeting with his coaching staff, after which they welcomed ten Suoer Eagles stars to the training camp on Tuesday morning.
Cyriel Dessers, Nathan Tella, Jamilu Collins, Semi Ajayi, Alex Iwobi, Moses Simon, and Calvin Bassey were among the first to land in Morocco.
Bruno Onyemaechi, Fisayo Bashiru, and Stanley Nwabali have also breezed into camp, and Real Sociedad striker Umar Sadiq has now joined the ten.
