Marco Silva’s Fulham have a massive boost ahead of their weekend clash against Sheffield United, as Calvin Bassey’s injury is not as serious as feared, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 24-year-old versatile Nigerian defender joined the other Super Eagles players in Morocco as they set out to face the Black Stars of Ghana and Les Aigles of Mali.
The former Rangers man could not feature in both games as he picked up an injury, and had to return to London for further medical checks.
He, alongside Brentford’s Frank Onyeka, left the Super Eagles camp before the loss against Mali, with the latter stating personal reasons to excuse himself from the rest of the team.
In a report published by The Standard UK, after initial assessments, Bassey’s injury is not as bad as feared, and the former Ajax man should be able to complete his recuperation and be back to full fitness as the Cottagers travel to Bramall Lane, to be welcomed by Sheffield United.
Bassey played the entire ninety minutes as Fulham trashed Ange Postecoglu’s Tottenham Hotspur at the Craven Cottage, just before the international break, thanks to a brace from Rodrigo Muniz and a third goal from Sasa Lukic.
Marco Silva’s side are currently 12th on the English Premier League table, a point below Mauricio Pochetinno’s Chelsea.
With just nine league games left for Fulham to play this season, a good run of form could see them end up in the UEFA Europa Conference League spots.
