The Super Eagles of Nigeria are currently without a coach following the expiration of Jose Peseiro’s contract with the Nigeria Football Federation, Soccernet.ng reports.
Meanwhile, the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations champions are slated to tackle the Black Stars of Ghana and Mali in Marrakech, Morocco, later this month.
With the NFF recently announcing the opening of the coaching role for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, there has been no communication on who will take up the job with less than 13 days until their first friendly clash since the 2023 AFCON tournament.
Soccernet.ng understands that the Technical Director of the NFF, Augustine Eguavoen, is expected to step into the role of caretaker manager pending the appointment of a new coach by the football body.
Meanwhile, reports also reveal that former Ajax forward, Finidi George, will still be part of the coaching staff for the 73-year rivalry clash between Nigeria and Ghana, as well as Mali.
Soccernet.ng earlier reported that Emmanuel Amuneke has applied for the role of the Super Eagles, and multiple sources have revealed that the Nigerian Football Body has taken steps to discuss terms and conditions with him.
The best candidate suited for the role has not been declared by the NFF, but it is widely known that a local coach is anticipated to lead the Super Eagles of Nigeria on a permanent basis.
N.B: Who do you think the Nigeria Football Federation should appoint as the next coach of the Super Eagles? Leave your comments below.
I think George Finidi should be allowed to lead this team. He is active and has been with the team. Sometimes wetin you dey find for Sokoto dey for your shokoto!!! Sometimes a little bit of philosophy is all that is needed to solve some problems not always throwing money at problems! The solution might just be a heart beat away!!!!
Get amuneke Emmanuel ASAP let us see him with these friendly matches first hand, let us observe him before he signs the contract… or if the Nff is as confused as ever and as usually so, then they should appoint finidi ASAP let him audition with these friendly games. my own opinion is that based on continuity, get amuneke and finidi as head coach and assistant respectively. No time for jamboree applications and searching up and down when a serious Nff should remember that June is coming fast.
THE BEST SUPER EAGLES FOR NOW
1.Emmanuel Amuneke (Head Coach)
2.Finidi George (First Assistant Coach)
3.Daniel Amokachi (Second Assistant Coach)
4.Michael Nssien (Physical Trainer)
5.Ndubuisi Egbo(Assistant Coach/Goalkeepers trainer)
6.Vincent Enyeama (Goalkeepers Trainer)
By virtue of what Emerson Far(Cote D’Ivoire),Rigobebert Song (Cameroon) and Aliou Diarra (Senegal) achieved with their National Teams, the NFF need not look further. Ex -internationals can handle the Super Eagles and will earn their respect from the players.
Augustine Eguavoen,Sunday Oliseh,Samson Siasia, Sylvanus Okpala,Peter Rufai,John Utaka, Joseph Akpala,, Nduka Ugbade,Kennedy Boboye,Imama Amapakabo, even Mike Emenalo are the other options but Emmanuel Amuneke remains our best bet for now due to his business-like and no-nonsense approach. He has played at the highest level (World Cup,AFCON, Barcelona,Sporting Lisbon, etc) won the Nations Cup,Olympic Football Gold ,African Footballer of the Year. He knows most of the current Super Eagles players (Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, Kelechi Iheanacho,Kelechi Nwakali, etc). As a coach ,he has tinkered the Golden Eaglets to the FiFA U17 World Cup title , qualified Tanzania to the AFCON,managed a team in Egypt.,The players are bound to respect him. Give us Amuneke now. Time is running out.
I think the NFF should give Emmanuel Amunike a chance to lead the super eagles in those friendlies.
