“It motivates me to do better” – German-born Werder Bremen striker speaks on representing Nigeria

“It motivates me to do better” – German-born Werder Bremen striker speaks on representing Nigeria

Njinmah joined Borussia Dortmund on loan and scored eighteen goals across two seasons in the third division before returning to Werder Bremen.

Werder Bremen centre forward, Justin Gideon Njinmah, has revealed what it means to him to see a possibility of playing for Nigeria in the future, Soccernet.ng reports.

Njinmah, 23, was born in Germany, but is of Nigerian descent and is yet to play any level of national football for either nation, spending his entire career in the Bundesliga.

This season, the former Borussia Dortmund player has had a hand in seven goals for Die Grün-Weißen this season, playing across the right and in the centre in attack, averaging a goal contribution every two hours of football.

According to German Sports Outlet, Sports Bild, Werder Bremen are looking to tie the young attacker to a new deal after a bright start to his debut season with Die Werderaner.

Get German Football also reported that the Deutscher Fußball-Bund, the German F.A. are looking to discuss with Njinmah over a slot in the national team, however, the Germans are stacked with options up-front like Timo Werner, Serge Gnabry and Nicklas Füllkrug.

With Nigeria as an option, the 23-year-old also faces stiff competition up-front as Kelechi Iheanacho, Victor Osimhen and Victor Boniface are all doing well with their clubs.

However, the player is undeterred and he is happy that he is being considered by Nigeria, and wants to go back to the drawing board to impress the country's representatives.

“Nick Woltemade showed me in the dressing room that that was in the article. When you hear that you're on the national team's list and they notice you, it motivates every player to keep going and get even better. If you continue to improve now, it might not be as far off as you always imagined,” Njinmah said in quotes revealed by Sports Bild.

Ole Werner's men are currently 8th on the Bundesliga table and are gunning for a spot in Europe. They're currently four points away from sixth place.
