Victor Osimhen scored twenty-six goals in the Italian Serie A last season to help Napoli win the Scudetto under Luciano Spalletti.
Napoli’s interim head coach, Francesco Calzona, has vowed to help the club’s attacking duo, Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to return to top gear, Soccernet.ng reports.
The duo were instrumental in Napoli’s Scudetto triumph last season, as they had a hand in 56 of the 77 goals Gli Azzurri scored last term.
They haven’t been able to replicate the form this season, as they have combined for just twenty-nine goals this term and the club has won just one of their last five games, losing one and drawing three.
The club turned to the expertise of Slovakian head coach, Francesco Calzona, to help fix the team after Rudi Garcia and Walter Mazzarri failed in replicating the success of Luciano Spalletti.
Under Calzona, the club are yet to lose. Two draws against Barcelona and Cagliari before a 6-1 win over Sassuolo has seen Die Partenopei regain a bit of confidence, and with Osimhen scoring in all three games, the former Cagliari assistant manager has vowed to get him and Kvara back to their best.
Speaking after his team’s win, the 55-year-old maintained belief that Napoli can still qualify for European football despite being in 9th place on the league table.
“I believe because until mathematics condemns us, I believe. Victor needed to find his rhythm again after the AFCON, & he made himself available. The same goes for Kvara, who was struggling. I will never give up on these players; having them is important to me,” the Slovakian said in quotes revealed by The Napoli Zone.
Victor Osimhen’s hat-trick against Sassuolo makes him the third player in Napoli’s history to score ten league goals in four straight Serie A seasons, joining Diego Maradona and Attila Sallustro in the history books.
